Paper Money Grading

Accurate Banknote Identification & Attribution

World Banknote Grading™ adds more to its currency grading label than just country, denomination, catalog number, and grade. We also add exact dates if known, printer, signature identification whenever possible, and other essential information to provide a superior level of identification that numistmatists demand.

We have an extensive reference collection of banknotes from almost 300 existing and obsolete countries along with books, periodicals, and other research material. Direct comparisons with similar notes from a given country are utilized during the identification and grading process.

Mistakes are inevitable and research information changes, but even the most discerning collector will be impressed with our knowledge and expertise.

New banknote research data is continually being integrated into this time consuming but critical aspect of expert third party grading and encapsulation.

Consistent Paper Money Grading Standards & Education

While I.B.N.S. (International Bank Note Society) currency grading standards are widely used by world paper money collectors, technical professional money grading services require incorporating even more specific criteria.

Uncirculated banknotes, particularly, can range from perfectly centered to poorly centered and so we go beyond the I.B.N.S. descriptions for differentiating margins, registration, handling marks, tip damage and so forth. In other words, not all uncirculated banknotes are equal at World Banknote Grading, as collectors already know.

This is why World Banknote Grading has painstakingly refined and modified the Sheldon 70 Point Grading System to assign a reproducible and consistent final number to each note graded.

If our explanation of the final grade is not clear, please contact us for clarification. We maintain grading documentation on each note for just that purpose.

Integrity & Commitment

World Banknote Grading integrity is our commitment and pledge to the numismatic community. Consistent accuracy defines our paper grading program. You will be impressed with the quality of what we believe to be a superior third party paper money grading product.

Unfortunately, the process of encapsulation or "slabbing" can sometimes mask subtle, but not necessarily insignificant, paper problems. Soft folds, for example, can be difficult to see as can handling marks once sealed in a holder.

This is why the integrity of third party graders is paramount.
